First week argentinian city life in Mar del Plata

After 6 hours car ride to Frankfurt, 13 hours flight to Buenos Aires and another 6 hours car ride we finally arrived Mar del Plata. Our “basetown” where we will do the rest of all preparations and the town where most of Bauti´s family is living. So besides our preparations for Simba we do take some time to enjoy spending time with this part of the family which we see just once a year.

So the first week went by really quickly.

We had some family get togethers. Drank some Mate. Did some walks around the neighborhood. Went to Balcarce to visit some relatives there and most importantly went there to pick up our R4 Simba.

Simba was there to get his car body fixed. It was such a good moment to see the car which is supposed to accompany us from Ushuaia to Alaska again – this time with a “new” motor. – since he was with a mechanic when we did the last preparations in Austria. The sound of the engine is really nice now. Nevertheless we did know, that we will need to bring him to another mechanic again quite soon, since Leo (Bautis dad) already told us, that he heard some noise from the gearbox. So we started the ride from Balcarce to Mar del Plata. It´s about 80 kilometer. 80 kilometers to go with 80 km/h which is our normal velocity with Simba on the highway. 😊 I had to drive, since Bauti needed to arrange something with his driving license, which was done a day after. We did hear some noises when we started to drive, but we do have to get used to and to learn to distinguish the noises of this 35 year old car. So we were fine on the road and enjoyed the ride.We entered Mar del Plata and since we were in the city centre we had to do kind of a stop-and-go on the streetlights. We did notice this noise some more often and hoped to make it through... – Until the moment when the gearbox broke 5 kilometers before destination. It was like a bad joke. We did say we will let it check within next week, but no… it has to break before. Otherwise we were really happy that it did not happen on the road in the middle of nowhere. 😉 so in the end we were another time town away from Leo and so we brought Simba to a specialist to let it be fixed today.

So we are still adjusting to Argentinian life in Mar del Plata again. We – or especially I – need to get used to it again, that if you need some thing, you have to calculate always more time until you reach it. Walking your dog, not so easy with so many street dogs – or lets say street dog gangs. Watching out wherever whenever you take a step outside. One week after this city life makes me already eager to start traveling. Eager to run from all those things a city like Mar del Plata comes along with. Especially in this turbulent time for the country – regarding the economic situation. Eager to get to know other amazing parts of this incredibly beautiful country. Eager to get to know the cultures and people within Argentina.

Next things to do for us with Simba:

# mechanic specialistfor gearbox (should be ready on Monday)

# painter

# carpenter (to put in our wooden boxes)

# adjusting some hooks for Rocky and another metal box

# putting on the rooftop tent

# loading our stuff in the car and start travel  (approx. mids of November)

Until then we are enjoying the time with the family here!
